CVC Capital

Sustainability and Responsible Investing

CVC actively encourages our portfolio companies to respect each stakeholder group and act as responsible corporate citizens.

During 2010 and 2011, an online sustainability guide was compiled for our investment teams so that a sustainability assessment can be incorporated into the due diligence and investment recommendation processes of a transaction.

CVC embraces the role that we and our portfolio companies can play in acting as responsible investors and managers of businesses, believing that this is aligned fully with the aim of producing long-term value for our investors.

PHILANTHROPY

Of CVC's annual philanthropy budget, 50% is allocated centrally to programmes focused on the integration of youth into society and the remaining 50% is allocated to charities nominated by individual CVC offices.

In early 2010, CVC became a member of the European Venture Philanthropy Programme (EVPA) and the Asia Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN). In Germany, we made a commitment to philanthropy through membership in the Private Equity Foundation (PEF). Donations have also extended to a US charity, Jumpstart, and CVC Asia Pacific has pledged to make a donation to the AVPN. CVC has also committed to the Impetus Trust, which operates a venture philanthropy model combining expertise with capital investment to provide real support and value to their underlying charities.

We will continue to identify venture philanthropy organisations throughout the countries in which we operate.

STREET LEAGUE

CVC became involved with Street League through our donation to the venture philanthropy organisation, Impetus Trust. Impetus provides both money and hands-on management to carefully selected charities with the potential to grow. Street League delivers structured football and education programmes aimed at young people not in employment, education or training. Having proven its model in three cities, the charity has plans to grow to 12 locations in Britain by 2014. To help Street League achieve its plan, CVC sponsored a recent fundraiser, 'The Challenge Victory Cup'. This football competition was held on 15 September 2011 at the London Soccerdome. 27 teams took part and more than 250 attended, raising over £50,000for Street League.

Apart from the financial benefit, the event was a great way for the charity to raise its profile in London's financial community. Click on the film on the right of the page to see some highlights of the inaugural charity football tournament.

MOUNT KILIMANJARO EXPEDITION

In July 2010, 14 CVC employees across the European network undertook a challenge as part of CVC's philanthropy initiative when they set out to climb Mount Kilimanjaro along the Machame route, Tanzania.

Before the climb, the team visited the Amani Children's Centre, a refuge for street children, and donating a variety of educational equipment to the centre.

In total, CVC raised over US$1 million from service providers, 25 corporations and numerous individual donors, raising more than its targeted amount towards Impetus and their own personal charities.

These funds have been deployed across 19 charities Impetus Trust and the Private Equity Foundation in Germany.

This expedition acted as a constructive enterprise for CVC, extending our social responsibility to the wider communities in which we work and focusing those charitable donations we raised.

BLENHEIM TRIATHLON

On 4 June 2011, a group of 16 colleagues from CVC's European offices will be competing against 10,000 others in the Blenheim Triathlon, consisting of a 750m lake swim, a 20km bike ride and a 6km run.

The team are raising money for research into Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a debilitating disease that affects more than 5,000 people in the UK. To date, the team has raised over £26,000, and CVC has pledged to match the final total.
