In March 2011, CVC Funds acquired the Spanish business, Capio Sanidad, of the Swedish healthcare group, Capio. Capio Sanidad is the leading private healthcare operator in Spain with revenues and net income of €673 million and €13 million. It became part of Capio in 2005 through the acquisition of the IDC Grupo Sanitario.
Capio Sanidad operates more than 20 hospitals and healthcare centres with over 1,500 beds in four main regions of Spain and employs over 7,000 members of staff. Capio has a strong position in both public and private businesses. Public healthcare is administered by regional governments with whom Capio has contracts. Private business is done with main Spanish insurance companies (e.g. Adeslas, Sanitas and Mapfre) and out-of-pocket money from patients.
