In 1998, CVC Funds completed the acquisition of Blagden Packaging, a Flanders-based packaging group that produced, distributed and reconditioned steel drums.
Blagden, active in over 40 countries worldwide, served as a European market leader in its industry, with share of over 30%. In 2006, the reconditioning and recycling division of the company generated a turnover €120 million and owned 14 branches in seven European countries. In total, Blagden employed over 1500 people.
The standard and specialty steel drums manufactured by the company come in a range of sizes and thicknesses with a choice of linings, configurations and covers to transport materials for the chemical, paint and coatings, food, pharmaceutical and hazardous waste industries.
In October 2006, the two main divisions of the company (production and reconditioning divisions) were sold separately, the former being sold to Greif, a leading European industrial packaging company.
