In December 2002, CVC Funds acquired Inalta from Iberdrola, Spain’s second largest utility group which distributes electricity and natural gas across the country. The company’s activities include generation, transmission and distribution of electricity; development, operation and maintenance of all types of energy-generating plants, including nuclear power, hydraulic power and thermal power plants; production of renewable energy.

Inalta today maintains a nationwide electricity network comprising over 5,000 kilometres of high-voltage network cables, around 120 substations and 50 large transformer units.

Inalta has branched out into new business areas, including real estate, energy engineering and consulting, water distribution, telecommunications, and information technology. In February 2005, Inalta was sold to REE; Inalta (Grid) was subsequently sold to Red Electrica de España in September 2005.
