Rungis

In December 1997, CVC led the management buy-out of Rungis Express, a market leading wholesaler of fresh foods to restaurants, hotels and catering industries throughout Germany and Austria.

Formed in 1978 by Karl-Heinz Wolf, the then small company soon rose to become market leader in its field, specialising in the purchase of a wide range of fine foods at the Rungis wholesale market in Paris, which it then transported to Germany as quickly as possible. This is where the name ‘Rungis Express’ and the Eiffel Tower in its logo come from.

Today, the company no longer solely buys from the Rungis market. Rungis Express’s basic range comprises over 3,000 top-quality products from more than 80 countries, including meat, fish, seafood, poultry, vegetables, coffee, spices, dairy and bread specialities, pâtés and terrines. During peak periods, approximately 20 tonnes of fresh products from all over the world are distributed to around 1,000 top chefs, fine food retailers, hotels and restaurants on every delivery night.

Since July 2005, Rungis Express has operated as a public limited company.
