In June 2006, CVC Asia Pacific Funds co-led a management buy-out of Skylark led by founder and CEO Kiwamu Yokokawa. Founded in 1970, Skylark is the largest family restaurant operator in Japan with some 4,400 outlets. Although relatively unknown overseas, Skylark’s restaurant brands are highly recognised throughout Japan.
The company owns a number of leading Japanese restaurant brands, attracting over 500 million customers every year. The transaction valued the chain at over US$3 billion, making it the largest ever MBO in Japan and all of Asia Pacific.
