Smurfit Kappa Group

Smurfit Kappa Group (‘SKG’) is one of the world’s largest integrated manufacturers of paper-based packaging products with operations in Europe and Latin America. Based in Dublin, Ireland, it was formed out of the merger of Jefferson Smurfit and Kappa Packaging in December 2005.

Kappa Packaging was formed from the buy-out of the Dutch group NV Koninklijke KNP BT in July 1998 and the acquisition of the corrugated and container board operations of AssiDomän AB in May 2001. In March 2007, Smurfit Kappa Group was floated on the Irish Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange.

Through this consolidation, the Smurfit Kappa Group has been developed into Europe’s largest and Latin America’s second largest producer of paper, corrugated board and solid board (‘containerboard’) from both chemically bleached virgin wood fibres (‘kraftliner’) and recycled cardboard (‘testliner’). The group is also the largest converter of containerboard into boxes in both Europe and Latin America.
