CVC Capital Partners ("CVC") today announced two senior appointments to its Japan team. Mr. Atsushi Akaike has joined as Partner and Mr. Yukinori Sugiyama has joined as Senior Managing Director. They are both based in Tokyo.
Atsushi Akaike joins the firm as Partner and Head of the CVC Japan office. Previously, he was a Senior Partner at leading Japanese private equity firm Advantage Partners LLP, where he led deals across the, telecommunications, software and manufacturing sectors. Prior to Advantage, Mr. Akaike was a consultant with McKinsey & Co. in Tokyo. He holds a Ph.D in Mining and Earth Systems Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines in the United States, and a MS degree in Geosystem Engineering from The University of Tokyo.
Yukinori Sugiyama joins CVC as Senior Managing Director. He brings significant expertise in the real estate related, B2C services and industrial sector. Previously, he was a Partner at Advantage Partners LLP in Tokyo. Mr. Sugiyama started his career in Japan at Procter & Gamble and served in the Commercial Initiatives Group at General Electric. Mr. Sugiyama holds a MS degree in Multi-Disciplinary Sciences and a BLA degree from The University of Tokyo.

CVC has been active in a number of recent successful transactions in Japan. In December 2014, CVC completed the successful initial public offering of TechnoPro Holdings Inc. on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. This was the largest domestic offering in 2014 in the Japanese market. CVC also invested approximately $150 million for a 50% interest in Arteria Networks, a leading telecommunications carrier in Japan in November 2014.
